Cashman’s Dilemma

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

When the Philadelphia Phillies were rumored to be interested in Erik Bedard a couple of weeks ago it put Phillies GM Pat Gillick in a bit of a moral dilemma.  There had been rumors that Gillick could be Seattle bound after season’s end, meaning he’d be in control of the players he would have jettisoned in […]

Shannon Drayer on Beltre

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

(First of all, check out Rob’s news post about the Washburn trade.)
I recently asked KOMO’s Shannon Drayer a few things about Adrian Beltre and she was very helpful, as always, and gave us some great stuff.  Besides her work on Mariner radio, she has a blog that is chalk full of tidbits not found on […]

Seattle’s 5 Highest Paid

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Ichiro Suzuki - $17M per
Adrian Beltre - $12M per
Carlos Silva - $11.5M per
Jarrod Washburn - ~$10M per
Miguel Batista - $9M per
(not including Sexson)
What’s wrong with this picture?  Seattle has one of the highest payrolls in baseball and two of the top five contracts go to guys that would be best suited as four-five starters and […]

Build-a-Lineup

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Here’s something all fans love to do: build your own lineup!
We’ve all griped enough about lineups that include several of Willie Bloomquist, Miguel Cairo, Kenji Johjima, Jose Vidro etc., so what would you do?
RF Ichiro Suzuki
2B Jose Lopez
DH Raul Ibanez
3B Adrian Beltre
C  Jeff Clement
LF Wlad Balentien
1B Bryan LaHair
SS Yuni Betancourt
CF Jeremy Reed
This is the first […]

Interesting Lineup…

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

…tonight against the Rich Harden-less Oakland Athletics.  (NOTE: This was intended to be posted before the game, but it somehow ended up as a page at the top of the site rather than a normal blog post, as some of you may have noticed.  Weird..)
Ichiro Suzuki, RF
Willie Bloomquist, SS
Raul Ibanez, LF
Jose Vidro, DH
Adrian Beltre, 3B
Jeremy […]

Nats Come to Safeco

Friday, June 13th, 2008

And we have a Jon appearance. Good to hear from ya. Yeah sorry about this last week and not getting anything up, I’ve had an extremely busy week. Getting out of school may seem like it has a lot of perks with free time, but I really don’t have much. I was able to watch […]

In Case None of You Saw This on Wednesday

McLaren Loses It…
Pure gold. This makes me respect him a little bit more, which means my respect level is now at like negative 250%. Either way, there was a lot of truth in that. Yes, the fans are pissed off. Yes, it will take a total team effort.
Let’s see how that carries over into the […]

Upcoming Detroit Series

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Friday - Nate Robertson (2-5, 5.88 ERA) vs. Carlos Silva (3-4, 5.14 ERA)
Saturday - Justin Verlander (2-7, 5.16 ERA) vs. Felix Hernandez (2-5, 3.60 ERA)
Sunday - Kenny Rogers (4-4, 5.88 ERA) vs. Miguel Batista (3-6, 5.98 ERA)
This ought to be interesting. A bunch of high ERAs, the last road stand we had against Detroit, no offense […]

Dear Mr. Washburn

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

You throw Johjima under the bus. You say there are language barriers that make you pitch terrible when he catches. You get your wish and Burke catches.
You get blasted. Maybe it’s not the catchers at fault…

Now What?

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

The Seattle Mariners started digging themselves into a hole within the first couple of games this season and haven’t stopped.  Their best winning streak has been just three games, and that happened once in April.  At eleven games under .500, Seattle is the owner of the worst record in all of baseball.

All-Stars?

Did anyone else have a chuckle when they saw this?

Zero Runs on Two Hits

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I’m not really sure what to write about anymore.  The starting pitching has been great overall.  The bullpen had some tough times, but you can’t pin too many losses on them.  The Seattle Mariners offense simply needs to produce more runs for the starters.
The additions of Jeff Clement and Wlad Balentien helped, but they’re rookies […]

“Happy Felix Day!”

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

“Happy Felix Day!,” a phrase that has appeared as the title of countless posts on countless Mariners blogs.  It has certainly become a favorite among Mariner fans, because whenever King Felix Hernandez takes the mound it truly feels like a holiday.  But who started the “Happy Felix Day!” phenomenon?  I had a good idea of […]

Angering Statistic of the Day…or Season

Friday, April 25th, 2008

“The Mariners are paying a combined $24M for Richie Sexson (.195) and Jose Vidro (.202).”
Thank you ESPN.com Power Rankings for putting a damper on my day, yet again.
