MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan:
The Rangers are also expected to talk to teams about infielder Hank Blalock. The Giants and the Mariners have shown some interest in him.
It’s very vague, but that’s what the rumor mill is all about.
Blalock has been a Mariner killer in the past and is a great power hitter from the left side […]

With Jack Zduriencik coming over from Milwaukee to become the Mariners’ GM, just about every current and former Brewer is going to be connected to Seattle by someone. It can get ridiculous at times, but there is obviously a reason for it.
All GMs bring in their “own guys” when changing organizations. Obviously it occurs in […]

A weird World Series comes to an end as Brad Lidge continues his save streak. Just about everyone I’ve come across were rooting for the Rays to take this one and I was too. I don’t like the Phillies, but I sure am happy for Jaime Moyer. A big congrats goes out to our old […]

VP of Player Personnel Benny Looper has left the Seattle Mariners organization after a couple decades of service. Depending on what report you read, he either quit on his own accord or was offered a demotion and decided to seek employment elsewhere.
A lot of people expected Looper to be fired before someone like Bob Fontaine, […]

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel offered up this little blurb in regards to Florida Marlins first baseman Mike Jacobs yesterday:
While the Marlins and Royals have had serious talks regarding Jacobs, a source that had been briefed on their progress described them as “not close” to fruition. The Mariners and Blue Jays are believed to have expressed […]

As expected, GM Jack Zduriencik has hired Tony Blengino and Tom McNamara over from the Brewers. Also, Bob Engle and Lee Pelekoudas will remain with the Mariners.
Blengino and Engle are going to get most of the spotlight here. Blengino is a SABR member and will hopefully help Seattle progress as a franchise. Engle has been arguably […]

New GM Jack Zduriencik has begun building his front office by relieving popular VP of Scouting Bob Fontaine of his duties.
Fontaine stepped in before the 2004 season and has helped revamp a farm system that was sorely lacking talent. Since he’s stepped in Fontaine has brought in a ton of talented youths that Seattle Mariner […]

Cross Jim Rigglemen off the list as being a potential manager of the Mariners next year. Rigglemen has signed on to be the Nationals bench coach. Jack Z obviously has already told Rigglemen he is not interested in him for manager. During the press conference Jack Z hinted that he didn’t want a 1st time manager […]

I was able to catch a couple minutes of Jack Zduriencik’s press conference, but will have to watch the rest later as I’m about to run out the door. Overall I think it’s encouraging. He acknowledged the value of sabermetrics and talked of how they were used in Milwaukee. I’m not sure how influenced he […]

Brewers Scouting Director Jack Zduriencik has been named the new Mariners GM according to Geoff Baker. This is a surprising pick but Jack Z is still very much qualified for the job. Baseball Prospectus named him #2 on their next best GM list and had this to say about him:
The first non-GM to ever win Baseball America’s […]

The Seattle Mariners are expected to announce which of the four finalists– Tony LaCava, Jerry Dipoto, Kim Ng, Jack Zduriencik– will succeed Bill Bavasi and Lee Pelekoudas as Seattle’s next GM.
The announcement could be held off until the World Series off day or after the Series has concluded, but all interviews have been conducted and there […]

My name is Arne Christensen and I run the website at 1995mariners.com that heads up Bleeding Blue and Teal’s blogroll. A few days ago I was browsing through a database archive, checking out Mariners articles from that year, and noticed some items about Raul Ibanez as a minor league catcher in 1995, playing for the […]

Royals Review put together a very good post that defines the #1, #2, #3, #4 and #5 starters with various stats. This is great because people often call a pitcher an “ace” or a “mid rotation guy” or whatever else, but what good does it do when everyone has a different idea of how to […]

The decision on who will be Seattle’s next General Manager could come within a few hours and certainly within the next few days. It doesn’t appear that CEO Howard Lincoln and President Chuck Armstrong will wait until the World Series concludes to make their announcement as originally reported, but will instead announce it before it […]

The Mariners have finally crunched the number of potential GMs to four: Kim Ng, Tony LaCava, Jerry DiPoto, and Jack Zduriencik, who is a new name to the list. These four candidates are being brought back for a second round of interviews.
The reason we haven’t heard about Zduriencik is that he received his first interview […]

Geoff Baker:
Remember Al Avila, the assistant GM with the Detroit Tigers and a finalist for the job five years ago? Well, he won’t even get a shot at the job this time around.
“We asked permission of (Tigers GM Dave) Dombrowski and were declined,” said Mariners spokesman Tim Hevly, speaking on behalf of team president Chuck […]

A lot of people complain about the MLB playoff system, but can you imagine if the Major Leagues adopted the Japenese system?

Boston Red Sox Assistant GM Jed Hoyer is the latest to turn down Seattle’s offer to interview. Hoyer was another young and highly regarded candidate who has had the opportunity to learn behind one of the best GMs in the game, Theo Epstein.
While it’s discouraging that Hoyer joins Kevin Towers, Paul DePodesta, Greg Hahn, Chris […]
