Tuesday Scraps

by Jon Shields ~ December 2nd, 2008

Here are a couple odds and ends to get today going.

From Prospect Insider’s sidebar:

According to multiple reports, the Seattle Mariners are in talks with a free agent, apparently an infielder, and could complete a deal within the next 12 to 24 hours.

Furthermore, they are also in the middle of serious trade talks with an NL club which could include as many as five players.

I’m told, however, that neither the free agent or the trade is going to make fans “jump up and down,” so we should relax and see what happens

The suspense surrounding this mystery free agent is killing.  My hopes aren’t very high, but I’m extremely eager for GM Jack Zduriencik to get the Seattle Mariners reconstruction going at the major league level.

This rumored trade could be with any number of teams for any number of players, so we’ll definitely have to wait and see with that one.  Seattle was rumored to be in talks with the St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks a few weeks ago.

The Milwaukee Brewers signed Scott Thorman to a minor league deal.  Seems like a strange move for them, considering the precense of Prince Fielder and Brad Nelson.  Thorman was a minor league free agent option for Seattle, but does this move improve Nelson’s availability?

Wait 5 players as in a we get 5 in return like a 5 for 1 or as in 5 players total like we give up 2 for 3 or something like that.

I must admit the same thing popped into my head when I heared Thorman had been signed by the Brewers…
I really do wonder if this, by any chance, increases the probability of the M’s acquiring Nelson?

Slurve, it wouldn’t be 5 players going to the M’s. The entire trade would be 5 players like the M’s getting 3 and the other team getting 2.
