First Batch of GM Interviews
by Jon Shields ~ October 8th, 2008
According to the Seattle Times‘ Larry Stone, CEO Howard Lincoln and President Chuck Armstrong will be interviewing five potential general managers this week:
- Peter Woodfork, Diamondbacks
- Jerry DiPoto, Diamondbacks
- Tony Bernazard, Mets
- Kim Ng, Dodgers
- Tony LaCava, Blue Jays
Last Sunday I posted a profile on Ng, and Rob posted one on LaCava. We’ll try to have posts on Woodfork and DiPoto by this weekend, as well as Rick Hahn of the White Sox.
You should be very encouraged with this batch of interviews. The lack of old-school executives and former GMs is a clear sign that the organization is moving in a new direction. The only one on this list that I am a bit leery of is Bernazard, but I could have a change of heart once I research him further.
UPDATE: As Rob mentioned in the comments, Oakland Assistant GM David Forst has also been interviewed, according to John Hickey.

Man I cannot wait for the WS to end.
Rays need to sweep the Sox.
Whoever wins the first game of the Dodgers Philliies series needs to sweep that series.
Rays need to sweep the WS.
…Just so i can find out who the next GM will be.
Ha, go RAYS!

^Yeah I’ve started reading up on him and he doesn’t sound like someone we want anywhere near this organization, especially given the state of our clubhouse right now. I may post something on him later tonight.

Add David Forst to the list of interviewees. I am shocked he didnt turn it down since he is guaranteed the A’s GM job when Beane moves up to president. If he is serious about wanting the M’s job then he immediately becomes #1 on my GM list.

I gotta agree with you Rob. If Forst really wants to take over this job, I have to say that he skyrockets up to #1 in my book also.
