When Losses are Good
by Jon Shields ~ September 25th, 2008
I still can’t root against the Mariners while the games are being played, but once it’s in the books I can delight in the team’s misfortune.
There is some good news regarding the Race for Strasburg. One, the Padres’ latest winning ways have officially taken them out of the running and they can do no better than the number two pick. Two, the Nationals’ game tonight was rained out and will not be made up because it has no playoff implications. The reason this is a good thing is that if Seattle were to tie the Nationals for the worst record in baseball, the Nationals would win the tiebreaker and get the first pick because they had a worse record last season. Now that Seattle has a 1.5 game “lead” with three games to play for each team there can be no tie.

RRS just put another blog up explaining what he meant yesterday and also addressing a little bit of the Ichiro thing. It’s a pretty good read.
I also read earlier somewhere that Riggleman and Putz both deny ever having a meeting to “clear the air”
Does anyone think some clubhouse goon is just trying to stir the pot for no reason?

Mr.MarinersFan, your optimism is infectious thanks for lifting my spirit in this very disappointing year.I too am looking forward to RRS’s progress in the up-coming new season and am crossing my fingers in hopes of getting Strasburg, that would be a big step forward….
and of course our offense gets hot tonight hehe … well I’m glad for our fella’s like Lopi ,he had a great night. You guys think they might end up playing him at 1st next year?

I think they will play him at first next year dude…I mean he looks like a real good defender there and I don’t see why his power wouldn’t fit the position you saw what he did to the A’s..He can hit 25 homers next year!
I’m also excited about Valbuena he really looks like he can be a solid player for us next year at second base!
