Washburn and Waivers [UPDATED]
by Jon Shields ~ August 11th, 2008
When Geoff Baker reported that Jarrod Washburn had cleared waivers, I was a little skeptical because it had just come out earlier that morning that Washburn was even placed on waivers, and there is supposed to be a three day waiting period for teams to put claims in. I let it go, but others didn’t.
From the looks of it, Washburn’s waiver window doesn’t close until today, and there is a good chance that either the Yankees or the White Sox will have a claim in.
There isn’t much left to say about any Washburn dealings that hasn’t been said in the last month; just get it done, Lee!
UPDATE: Prospect Insider’s Jason A. Churchill confirms that the reports of Washburn clearing waivers were premature, and thinks that we’ll know something in the next 24 hours. One interesting note also coming out of that comments section is that if Seattle deals Washburn to an American League team, they could get players back without worrying about whether or not they clear waivers, since Seattle has number one waiver priority.
