Nice to Have a Closer Again
by Jon Shields ~ August 29th, 2008
As much as I think that MLB closers are misused and overpaid, it is nice to have JJ Putz healthy and back to his old self in the 9th inning. He hasn’t regained the pinpoint control he had last season, but his 1-2-3 save in Cleveland tonight was certainly nice to see, especially since it was against these Indians on May 1st that Putz had a particularly frustrating and revealing blown save that took a lot of people’s concern to the next level. Hopefully he’ll stay the course and be able to rebuild his value as an elite closer.

I have to agree 100%…. I have never been so frustrated with any staple mariner than J.J….(I said staple….. not Bedard, Silva or any other bust this season)…. It would be the same feeling if Ichiro or felix had a bad year. I pray to the impotence of niehaus that J.J’s arm is back to stay.
