Jharmidy DeJesus Photos and Video

I decided to make the trip up to Everett to watch the Aquasox play on Saturday night. There were four players I was interested in seeing: 3B Jharmidy DeJesus, OF Dennis Raben, and to a lesser extent SP Nolan Gallagher and OF Tyson Gillies. Unfortunately, of those four only DeJesus and Gillies started.
I was already high on DeJesus from what I’ve been reading on him, and he certainly didn’t let me down upon seeing him in live action for the first time. He hammered the first pitch he saw for a home run the other way. His next at bat he worked the count well and eventually drove an RBI single to left field. I got a recording on my camera:
The video quality isn’t great, but it’s better than nothing! I would have gotten the home run as well but a vendor was in my way. In his third at bat he drew a well earned walk.
The only thing that wasn’t very impressive was his defense, and more specifically his throws to first base. He was in the habit of skipping throws across the infield and had one error. This game marked his 19th birthday, so there is plenty of time for him to work on that aspect of his game. He was pulled late in the game for a defensive replacement, though he could have been removed for some other reason.
Here are a couple other DeJesus photos from before the game. Free photos of this guy aren’t easy to find, so I figured I might as well take the opportunity to get a couple:

I would have taken notes on some other players, but it was really cold and I didn’t do much but ball myself up to keep warm. The only time I really moved was when DeJesus came to bat! The Aquasox won 5-4 in walk off fashion in the 10th inning, by the way.

? The rest of my comment didn’t show … hmm.
Well, who do you think is a fair major league comp to DeJesus?

Hmm.. I’m not really sure. DeJesus was one of the big international signings before the season and has a lot of upside. He also has okay plate discipline compared to the average latin prospect, which will help his offense develop quicker than someone like Jose Lopez.
I’m not going to try and predict who he’ll end up like because I don’t have much to base it on, but for some reason he is reminding me of Miguel Cabrera. It’s just what popped in my mind and I don’t have much reasoning for it; just a hunch. That said, I just pulled up each players stats from their first year of pro ball (rookie/low-A) and they’re fairly similar, though Cabrera was a year younger.
