Prospect Insider on Beltre

by Jon Shields ~ July 25th, 2008

Prospect Insider’s Jason A. Churchill just put up a good read on dealing Adrian Beltre, including what kind of packages Seattle could expect from the Dodgers and Twins.  While there have been reports that the Dodgers weren’t interested in Beltre and that they were on his no-trade list, Churchill throws this out there:

(do not believe everything you read, the Dodgers have had two scouts at every Mariners games since the series right before the All-Star break - every single one)

Churchill seems to favor a trade in which the Dodgers send 3B Andy LaRoche and a pitcher, either Jon Meloan or Scott Elbert.  I’d love to bring a guy like LaRoche into the organization, though the total proposed package seems a little weak considering Seattle is in no hurry to trade Beltre.  Churchill knows what he’s talking about, though.

The Dodgers just traded for Casey Blake, so it looks like we will most likely keep Beltre unless the Twins make a huge bid, which I highly doubt.

I would kind of like to see Betancourt get moved to LAD for a pitcher, call up Tug Hullett and have him play SS from here on out.

I wonder if the scouts could be there for Betancourt?

Doubt the organization would deal him, but they would be smart to. I think he’s overrated in Seattle.
