Riggleman’s First Series; Series Thread
by Dustin Shires ~ June 21st, 2008
The Mariners crush the Braves in the opening game of the series 10-2 to give new skipper Jim Riggleman a win in his Mariners manager debut. The Mariners just flat out hit the ball in timely situations. It looked like it would be another long day when Beltre was robbed of a home run, but the rest of the team took care of business, later in the game. A bases clearing double really cracked the game wide open. With that, the Mariners went on to win the game. 15 hits, 10 runs (the most since May 12) made for a fun day to watch.
Bedard was pulled from the game with back spasms. Please, please, be nothing more than this. Hopefully he comes back at full strength.
Saturday
Jarrod Washburn (2-7, 5.83 ERA) vs. Jair Jurrjens (7-3, 3.43 ERA)
Sunday
Carlos Silva (3-8, 5.79 ERA) vs. Tim Hudson (7-5, 3.17 ERA)
Chipper Jones was slumping. Chipper Jones is now out for the rest of the series. The catalyst for their offense, and arguably the best hitter in the league is out. Hopefully our pitching staff can take advantage of their weakened offense (yet still very capable line-up).
UPDATED: Riggleman’s Mariners manager record: 1-2
Let’s go M’s!

I really never heard anything because I’ve been out of the house and only catching about half the games, but my dad said it was said that he didn’t travel with the team because he was having some sort of back issue. Didn’t travel with the team.

The official word is back spasms. Looks like he’ll be good to go against the Mets tomorrow.
