Felix Goes Deep, Gets Hurt in Win

by Jon Shields ~ June 23rd, 2008

Seattle’s young ace King Felix Hernandez gave us some interesting things to talk about tonight.  First of all, as mentioned in an earlier comments thread, he miraculously went deep to right center field for a grand slam in the second inning off none other than Johan Santana.  Follow this link for video.  On a side note, that video includes Erik Bedard as riled up as I’ve ever seen him.

If you’re going to be the first to do something, you might as well make it memorable.  The grand salami was the first home run by a Mariners pitcher in the history of the franchise.  Pretty freaking sweet.

A few innings later Felix broke our hearts, at least temporarily, by hurting himself in a collision, pictured below, with Carlos Beltran.  Scary as it is to have your best pitcher hurt, we probably wouldn’t even be discussing this if it was anyone else.  The sprain was described as “mild” and Felix thinks he’ll make his next start.  That calls for a sigh of relief, whether or not Seattle’s 2008 campaign matters.

Man…..what a let down for poor Felix , pitching a great game and oh… btw happens to hit a grandslam…things going not only good but great then BAM! some wanna-be baseball player named Beltran (JK) smashes his ankle..CRAP! just what we need now.
Well I hope the King is not out for long and at least we won it.
Jon good to see you back
