“Happy Felix Day!”
by Jon Shields ~ April 27th, 2008
“Happy Felix Day!,” a phrase that has appeared as the title of countless posts on countless Mariners blogs. It has certainly become a favorite among Mariner fans, because whenever King Felix Hernandez takes the mound it truly feels like a holiday. But who started the “Happy Felix Day!” phenomenon? I had a good idea of who it may be, but I decided to investigate.
After extensive research, I’ve come to the conclusion that the phrase was coined by “peter” at U.S.S. Mariner way back on August 26, 2005 during Felix’s first stint with the Mariners. Now, I could be wrong considering my “extensive” research included just a couple quick Google searches and a quick sift through the USSM archive, but I assumed the phrase started at USSM, so that’s where my search ended when I found them use it so early on. Can anyone prove me wrong? I’ll send you a May 2007 issue of Mariners Magazine if you can.
Anyway, Happy Felix Day!

Happy Felix Day!
I always thought someone on Lookout Landing made up the phrase but I was never really sure.

Woah, I went through those comments and saw mention of Bucky Jacobsen.
I totally forgot about the Buckster. Where’d he go?

^I believe he was on with the White Sox for awhile then back to the Independant Leagues. As far as I know he’s out of pro ball, but he may be playing in some obscure league somewhere.
