Read and React: Who Would You Rather Have Long Term?

So, since the Mariners’ blogs around the internet have been rather boring since we landed Bedard, I figured I’d chip in a Read and React! Here goes…
Who would you rather have signed long term?
Felix Hernandez, or Erik Bedard?
Leave a comment telling BBT who you would rather see long term!
Please, do not say both. I know this would be ideal, but for sake of the blog post, please only pick one, if possible.

You would have to pick Felix as he is only 22 and has so much freakin potential. He is the future face of the franchise. The good thing is Felix isnt a free agent for a long time and according to Geoff Baker the Mariners are already discussing a deal that would buy out all of his arbitration years.

I’d take Felix, he simply has more years and upside in front of him.

Felix without question…At 22 he has unlimited potential and has already proven to be a reliable 2/3 starter…If he develops to his full potential he’ll be a top 5 ace in the league…Bedard, on the other hand, is almost 30 and has proven to be injury prone…Bedard is great but signing Felix to a long term deal makes much more sense…At worse he is a quality 2 guy, at best he’s the top righty in the league…

Felix. No real Mariners fan takes a proven but new to us kid in Bedard over the pride of our farm.

I’d take Felix over pretty much any other pitcher in baseball.

Johan?

Going forward I’d take Felix over Johan.
If I wanted to win it all right now I’d probably take Johan.
Felix is about 7 years younger so he likely has the longer, more productive years ahead of him.
Johan didn’t become a full time starter in the MLB until he was 25. Felix has done nothing but start since breaking in at age 19.
The only guys I’d consider taking ahead of Felix are young guys still under club control.

felix without a doubt

jp; Yeah, I meant as of today, we needed to win one game to save our franchise, we can have any pitcher in the majors, would you rather have Felix over Johan?
And if we needed to win one game to save our franchise in 6 years, it would probably be Felix for anyone. This is provided that Felix doesn’t every once in a while find a way to collide with Ben Broussard.
